2. Technical questions about installation and registration
We recommend you watch our five-minute video about installing EPLAN Education and the registration process. You can find it here. It will guide you through the process step by step.
After registering, you will receive an e-mail with a confirmation link. You must click on the link; no licence can be created beforehand due to reasons of data protection. After a plausibility check of your data, an activation code will be generated and sent to you. If the details you entered do not seem plausible, your computer will remain blocked for re-registration and no further action will be taken.
If you do not receive an activation email, please check the following:
- Whether you used a different e-mail address for registration (possibly a school or college e-mail address), or
- Whether our e-mail perhaps landed in your spam folder – which happens from time to time.
Occasionally it also happens that a correct registration cannot be transmitted to our licence server because of a firewall blocking the data transfer. If you have been able to rule out the two previous possibilities and still have not received an activation code, please send an email to education@eplan.de. We will then check to see what the problem is.
It sometime happens that the window with the registration form is not displayed.
Please start the EPLAN Education software while holding down the shift key. In the “Select licence” dialog, go to “Single-user licence > Enter the activation code.” The host ID of your computer is shown here. Please send your Host ID to us at education@eplan.de. We will take care of the problem.
First, please create your EPLAN ID by following the link (the blue button) in the e-mail you received. This link must be clicked within fourteen days of receipt, after that it becomes invalid. (Should this time period already have passed, please send us an email with the subject line “EPLAN ID link expired” to education@eplan.de.)
Next, continue with the installation: Please enter a Company Code and follow the installation, then select “Finish” We have a step-by-step guide for the entire installation and registration process in our instructional video that you can find here.

In this case please enter the number of your personal ID.
It is not possible to extend a current licence. However, if you are still studying or in training, we can activate a new registration for you. In this case please send an email, including your serial number (EPL …) to education@eplan.de. (Your serial number was sent to you via e-mail with the activation link.)
If the link in your registration email was not used to create an EPLAN ID within fourteen days of receipt, the link expires. However, it is still possible to register after this! What you will need is your customer number so that your account can be assigned to your licence so that the program “knows” that you are registered.
In this case please send an email to education@eplan.de with the subject line “EPLAN ID link expired” and we will send you your customer number to register for the EPLAN ID.
To use a new version of the software, you have to register a new licence. Please follow the installation instructions (with the help of our video); download the most recent version of the software from our Education for Students website, install it and fill in the registration form again with your details during the installation. You will then receive an e-mail with your licence data for the new version as usual.

Transferring the EPLAN Education licence to another computer or to a new operating system is not possible since our licences are always tied to a specific computer and/or system. However, you can easily register for a new licence.
To do this, download the desired software version from our Education for Students website, install it and fill out the registration form with your details during the installation again. Afterwards you will again receive an email with a confirmation link and then your licence details for the new version.

3. Other
No, EPLAN Education uses its own data format and it is incompatible with the professional version of the software.
Yes, because EPLAN Education for Students and EPLAN Education for Classrooms are completely compatible with each other. However, please note that student licences are limited to forty schematics pages, therefore larger projects may not be able to be opened. (The Classroom licences are unlimited in this respect.)
Access to the EPLAN Data Portal is also available for users of the Education version. Here your username and password can be chosen at will, whereby the former must be unique. You can find instructions for use in the Data Portal’s help section.
There are multiple sources for information. You can find answers to various questions in our FAQs. For getting started with the software and learning how best to work with it, take a look at the eLearning course materials on eplan.com. Our website also has a general overview of EPLAN Education. Should you have other questions, please feel free to send us an email at education@eplan.de.
The EPLAN Education for Students version of the software does not entitle users to use the hotline or provide any warranty. Therefore access to support is not possible. However, your instructor/teacher does have the possibility of using EPLAN Support as part of their subscription to EPLAN Education.
As a student/trainee, you do have access to a large number of eLearning course materials on our eplan.com platform.

Yes, we offer an EPLAN Certification for Students/Trainees or arrange such with an independent certification partner. Students at vocational and technical schools (or similar) can take the exam to become an EPLAN Certified Technician (ECT), while college students can become an EPLAN Certified Student (ECS).

EPLAN Education for Classrooms is available to teachers and trainers for non-commercial teaching in educational institutions.

No, this is not permitted. For non-commercial teaching in educational institutions, the EPLAN Education for Classrooms version is available for teachers and trainers.
No, the use of student licences in the school or university environment is not intended. For this purpose, we provide you with the EPLAN Education for Classrooms version free of charge or for a small service fee.

Yes, we offer basic training courses at various locations and online. When you order an EPLAN Education licence package, you will receive a free five-day basic training course for one of our instructors. Please contact the EPLAN Training Academy to find out more about our offer and dates.
We provide lecturers with a range of free eLearning modules. You can use these to prepare and conduct lessons and examinations.
We are also happy to provide you with a manual to help you integrate topics and exercises into your lessons in the best possible way. As an EPLAN Education customer, you can simply request this via education@eplan.de or our contact form.
When purchasing EPLAN Education for Classrooms licences, one day of installation service by our technical consultants is included.
As EPLAN Education customers, educational institutes and training companies have access to our technical support via hotline or e-mail.
2. Technical questions
No, EPLAN Education has its own data format. The data is not compatible with each other.
Access to the EPLAN Data Portal is possible for users of the Education versions. You can freely choose your user name and password. Similar to a forum, the user name must be unique. Instructions for use can be found in the help section of the Data Portal.
Please go to Utilities > Master data > Synchronise system master data in the menu.
Confirm the query with [Yes].
You can select multiple sources at the top right.
Select the options one after the other, mark all displayed elements in the right-hand window (Ctrl+a) and transfer everything with the blue arrow to the left.
Repeat this for all available sources.
The master data (templates, forms, etc.) are then available to you.
- Reinstall the "EPLAN Client Service" (this may need to be uninstalled first via the Control Panel > "Programs and Functions").
- You will find the setup in the downloaded installation data in the "Licence Client (x64)" directory.
- Then check in Control Panel > Administration > Services whether the "EPLAN Client Service" service is running.
- Please also delete the old licence file located on the client in the folder "C:\Users\Public\EPLAN\Common" or move it out of the folder.
- Afterwards, please carry out the activation of the Education again at startup.
Yes, if you want to exchange projects with each other, you must both use the same version.
This is necessary, for example, when you prepare an assignment and distribute it to your pupils or students. This also applies if you want to check or work on homework, exercises and final assignments.
Our software is always downward compatible. This means that a newer version can also be used to open projects that were created in an older version. However, when this project is opened, the project is converted to the new version and saved accordingly. Please note that a reverse conversion is then no longer possible.
3. Pupils and students
Yes, we provide the free EPLAN Education for Students software for pupils and students, which can be downloaded here. You will need to register with us during the installation process. For support, we offer video instructions and installation instructions in PDF format here.
Yes, the two product variants are fully compatible with each other.
Please note, however, that the student licences are limited to 40 circuit diagram pages. Therefore, larger projects cannot be opened. The classroom licences are unlimited.

Yes, we offer EPLAN certification for pupils and students or arrange this with an independent certification partner.
Students from vocational and technical schools, etc. can take the EPLAN Certified Technician (ECT) exam, students from universities can take the EPLAN Certified Student (ECS) exam.
As a lecturer, you first take the exam yourself. Upon successful completion, you will be authorised to conduct the practical final examination for your pupils or students yourself.
