A better overview of the project progress

Solutions provider EPLAN is presenting the new version of EPLAN Smart Wiring at this year’s SPS trade show. The “Wiring Profile” surprises users with a new user interface that flexibly maps various workflows and adds the integration of wires and hoses. Production planners and managers benefit from dashboards that include web diagrams, easier resource planning and a complete overview of a project’s progress. Monheim, Germany, 14 October 2019 – Version 2.9 of EPLAN Smart Wiring makes the wiring process easier and more transparent. The EPLAN Smart Wiring Monitor architecture and layout have been completely redesigned. A project’s wiring status is now directly displayed, including the Test Mode. Dashboards can be individually customised and automatically displayed with the support of the latest display libraries for web diagrams. Production planners and managers aren’t the only ones enjoying completely new possibilities and a productivity overview that is always up to date. How many users are working on a project? How many wires have been connected? Does more material need to be ordered and are there enough personnel resources? These questions can be answered in a matter of seconds by looking at the corresponding dashboards.

EPLAN Smart Wiring Client

Whether as a PC application or directly on a tablet computer: Version 2.9 offers users every possibility. The wiring technician can operate the software via touchscreen and directly input the wiring progress into the system. The software’s intuitive operation allows less-qualified specialists to complete wiring tasks, providing effective assistance in resource planning when there is a shortage of skilled personnel. The software also allows data to be made available on a central server, ensuring uniform data for everyone working in manufacturing.

New: Wires and hoses

Connection types have been significantly enhanced in EPLAN Smart Wiring, Version 2.9. Today’s automation technology traditionally comprises two topics – electrical engineering and pneumatics. Valve terminals installed in control cabinets require both electrotechnical controls as well as the appropriate hose connections. Starting in Version 2.9, EPLAN Smart Wiring users can integrate both wires and hoses into their workflows. The different connection types are taken into account and any available information about wires and hoses is automatically displayed. By the way, cable data are more comprehensive than wire data: additional information including device tags, cable lengths (total lengths), stripping lengths or the number of cable connections can all be determined with EPLAN Smart Wiring 2.9.

Flexible selection of working method

Ease of use is a central argument for using software. Version 2.9 offers even more flexibility: software users can now customise the user interface to better meet their needs. In the United States, for instance, wiring work is traditionally carried out using numerical lists instead of device tags, and now either method can be individually set up in the interface. The new user interface is also ideal for customising the display of different customer workflows. Information can be flexibly configured, displayed or hidden so that the crucial information is in the foreground, whether it’s needed by a wiring technician or by a project manager. ©EPLAN Software & Service, October 2019
